To serve or not to serve?

Ready for the start of term and new to the Pendlebury Library is a smart Self-issue machine, located opposite the issue desk.  This latest addition to the library will allow you to serve yourself by issuing your own books and scores, which we hope will cut down on queues in busy periods.

All you need is your blue University card with a legible barcode on the reverse – preferably not one that has been through college laundry facilities a  few times!  The clear on-screen instructions will guide you through the process.  Helpful hints to get you started:

  • Issue the majority of books and scores from the open shelves
  • Check the screen display to confirm that you have the correct number of items issued
  • Overnight loan books still need to be issued at the staffed issue desk
  • No returns or fine payments at this machine

As with any new system, we anticipate some teething problems, for instance with scores and parts. The library staff will be on hand to give assistance and the normal issue desk will be available to anyone who wishes to use it.

As part of this project, our old security system was replaced during the summer of 2013 and a new system installed.
We now have new security gates at the entrance to the library to work with the new technology, which give a sleek new look when you come in and light up with blue LED lights if triggered!
