Anna has already written about Music survey results: good news and bad news, and two points raised in the students’ feedback were: 1. to be better informed about new acquisitions and 2. to have more DVDs and CDs.
Whereas newly-acquired books feature prominently in the library (we remove the dust jackets of hardbacks anyway, so it is easy to display them in the library, see left), DVDs (like CDs) are stored in closed access; therefore we don’t usually allow browsing, and people might forget to check our online catalogue for new items. For those who like to use our RSS, our “New titles by item” gadet might be of interest: http://linux02.lib.cam.ac.uk/rss/accessions/by_item/PEN.rss
With regard to buying and having more DVDs and CDs, I have tried in the last couple of weeks to buy more DVDs than I would normally have bought (within the fixed audiovisuals budget), as I had thought that our subscription to Naxos Music Library, plus the nearly 5,400 CDs we already hold at the Pendelbury Library, should cater well for our readers’ listening needs (note: for Cambridge users: Naxos Music Library only works with user name and password given out at Pendlebury Library Issue Desk, or from one terminal in the Anderson Reading Room, at the University Library).
However, to address the “invisibility” of new DVD arrivals, I will promote regularly recently-received DVDs on this blog; the following DVDs might entice you to watch these and others in our growing DVD collection:
